Adult Painting Class Information

Adult Painting Classes – Sunday Mornings

Virdell Hickman will be teaching beginning painting adult classes Sunday mornings from 10am to 12pm.

This class is designed for both new and more experienced painters.  Emphasis will be given to oil painting in this class. However, acrylic painting will be briefly explored as a quick-drying medium to be used as an under painting for oils. We will explore the history of oils, preparing a suitable painting surface, brush handling, cleaning and maintenance, use of the palette knife and making marks with the brush. We will review color theory and learn to mix colors, creating a chart from which to draw in later painting.

We will study lighting effects and how to represent a variety of surfaces on the canvas. Oil painting is a demanding medium that requires patience and determination. However, this medium allows results that cannot be created any other way, and rewards the patient and determined artist for their effort!
