Virdell Hickman, a native of Marin County, is a local Bay Area Artist.  She holds a BA in Studio Art with a focus on Painting, which she received from Mills College in Oakland, with honors.  She has studied under bay area artists, Chester Arnold and Hung Liu (another Bay Area Artist and Professor at Mills).  In 2006, Virdell had the priviledge to travel to London for artistic research and later that year to China, with Hung Liu, where she presented her work at the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, while visiting  and studying with other renowned artist's such as Ai Weiwei, Liu Xiaodong, Yu Hong, Sui Janguo, Lin Tianmiao, Wang Gongxin and Zhang Wang.   Currently, Virdell is working towards a MA in Transformative Arts at John F. Kennedy University in Berkeley, while she continues to teach classes to all levels and ages at Studio 333 in Sausalito.  As the Program Director for the Youth Art Camps at Studio 333, Virdell holds a certificate from the Teaching Artist's Institute and enjoys working with kids and designing art programs that focus on process art. She also has a degree in  multi-media, specializing in graphic design.  Her instruction covers a variety of mediums and combines digital work and contemporary methods with traditional concepts.
